I know both Scala and Python very well. I am using Python in my daily job for 7 years, and used Scala for 5+ projects 3 years ago. This project sounds like not very challenging, as long as I can look through the Scala code base, and extract its architecture and business/analytics logic out, then I can fairly easily translate it into Python.
