As part of an hardware/software platform, we are kicking the tires on implementing a map interface for representing data form our agent network. The agent work is mobile and feeds our database with measurement data (some random application specific data for the sake of this discussion). Along with the app specific data the agents also upload their GPS coordinates. We need to be able to put markers on a map (Google Map?? some other API?? Preferably open source and free to start with) and have the ability to click on the markers to see the app specific data. We have a sample project that describes the agents and app specific data in django that uses a sqlite DB. Preferable we want the web frontend to work with that DB. But we are open to discussion. We are hardware folks and we apologize for any misleading terminology that may have been used here. We can explain it better if there are any questions.

Hi there - what you described seems like a mashups project. You may already know but mashups is a way to match information with map pointers so that it can be displayed accurately on a map (along with geographic details). Google Maps APIs provide a lot of good functionality to enable mashups. Happy to chat more on the exact requirements and how we can create informative maps using the information the agents upload. About me: I am a software engineer with 11+ years of experience (with 6+ years at IBM Research) in the US and India. I have worked on numerous software and web development projects in the past. I currently work on Django and Python (also currently developing a large web application on Djano/Python to do data aggregation and analysis). regards Anupam
