## SUMMARY: I have some simple 2D data (a textfile with a list of "x,y" coordinates) and would like to get some simple output from an R cluster analysis library. I don't really need to you do tooo much coding i hope - mostly just calling an existing library! but i'm completely new to R which is why I seek your help, and hopefully this is an easy one for you. Basically, using calls to existing lib, I just want to 1) find out how many clusters it thinks my list has, and then 2) create some images which visualise it. This is all from the commandline so I can semi-automate it, so i guess two different .bat files basically (im on Windows). As far as cluster visualisation goes this is about as simple as it gets i think! ## SPECIFICS: My data is simply a text file where each line is an x,y pair, each value is a percentile from 0.00 to 100.00 (or 0 to 10000 if you prefer), eg: 34.45,21.55 88.29,25.82 ...etc. Typically 20 to 1000 lines. You can see an example set (3 clusters should get detected) and corresponding basic plot here: [login to view URL] [login to view URL] (= [login to view URL]) (Also attached as project uploads) ## Part1) There's an R package called "NbClust" which runs through the data with ~30 different algorithms, with each algorithm saying how many clusters it thinks there is eg "3". I just need to have those results saved to a textfile. (It lets you specify "all" or just the name of a single algorithm). So I need to be able to run a commandline, something like this: clusterpart1.r all [login to view URL] [login to view URL] (I will then manually read or parse [login to view URL] to find out the recommended # of clusters) ## Part2) Then, I simply want to visualise it as a few different images. I'm not sure which cluster visualiser library is best to use for this, and your suggestions might be better than mine - you're free to use any you think is best, and I found at least two options with "Mclust" ([login to view URL]) and "Clusters" ([login to view URL]), but again you're free to use any you think is best. They seem to offer several ways of viewing the data differently just by changing one line of code, so if you could output a few different visualisations that'd be great. So, I need to be able to run a second commandline, eg. clusterpart2.r [login to view URL] 3 output ;3 clusters (and it would then create [login to view URL], [login to view URL], etc for the different visualisation models) ## EXAMPLES: The main styles/types of visualisation i'm after are ones along these lines, but basically just whatever good ones the library offers! [login to view URL] [login to view URL] [login to view URL] [login to view URL] ## MISC: Also, if it's easy to add support for a 3rd ("x,y,z") dimension that'd be great, eg. Hi, You are looking to detect clusters in some 2D and possibly 3D data and then visualize them using R. I have experience working in both descriptive and predictive analytics in R and can assist you with your project. I am confident that I can cluster the 2D data because I have implemented the same myself. I have attached a couple of screenshots from a previous project showing clustering of aggregated nightlight radiances based on location. You have already identified cluster functions and I would also add hclust. We can test them and see which works best. Visualization can be done using the clustered plots as you have shown in your examples or using dendrograms. The dendrogram may not be so intuitive for plots with many points since the labels may be hard to see. The functions can work with 3D data and the normal plot functions should yield a compelling 3D model. Regards, Chris

I intend to use built-in packages with manual tweaking for the clustering, saving of data and visualization. 4. For other needs and purposes, we can discuss in detail.
