I want to post to an SQL server from a DOS Batch file. (Using the OSQL utility or something like it.)
I have a set of batch files which run half a dozen or more routines. Between each routine, I'd like to add a line which would post an update to the monitoring database indicating the routine is starting/ending.
The server would always be the same: Bob
The database would always be the same: UpdateManager
The user ID and password would always be the same: (whatever)
And all of the statements would look similar:
UPDATE ScrapeDate = getDate() WHERE UpdateID = 2344
...and later...
UPDATE LinkCheckDate = getDate() WHERE UpdateID = 2344
I'd like the routine to be customizable, so that I can pass the field name and value from the originating batch file to the SQL batch file. (Command, fieldname, field value, record number) As in...
call [login to view URL] Scrapedate getdate() 2344
... or....
call [login to view URL] FileCount 12998 2344
All of this will be run inside my Windows domain and the user will only have update rights on select columns in select tables, so I'm not too worried about security.
