Do you have a bit more information on what type of data you need to collect, and using what protocols? What operating system is/are the computers? Also, where is this data going to end up (i.e. SCADA applications or HMI software, PLC, database, etc)? I live in the US and specifically Maine. I have built a good collection of SCADA systems for various clients, mostly in the power generation industry. Monitoring remote equipment like this is pretty common problem , so there are several ways we can attack this. Remotely accessing industrial computers is part of my day-to-day operations, so I expect that with a little more background on your goals and application we can figure out how to approach this and I can give you a coherent, updated proposal. We have a ready developed software (MODBUS/TCP) client that can collect data from a field device, stores the data in MS Access database and sends data via EMAIL. It can also writes data to the field device either manually entered, or read from MS Access data base.
