We are now looking to create a more advanced online script which would allow a member to store their profile in a MySQL database and extract that information to generate personalized newsletters.
## Deliverables
We currently run a newsletter service in which members download an .exe file and generate a newsletter (essentially using a find and replace type facility).
We are now looking to create a more advanced online script which would include the following features:
- the script would function from inside our existing members' area so no actual membership script would be required. Payment and access etc would be controlled by our existing membership script.
- Include a members profile area (MySQL database) where members can add their personal details/affilaite id's so these can be
automatically inserted into the relevant areas of the
newsletter. (using tags in a "recipe")
- The newsletter template will include the following
editable fields - 1 x tips category, 2 x article
categories, 1 x free giveaway category and 2 x ads category BUT this should be changeable should we decide to change the layout in the future.
- The content would randomly selected from a MySQL database controlled by admin and inserted in each separate category, but members can manually edit the content before approving the newsletter.
(i.e. the member would be able to search the different categories via keywords - tips category, article categories, free giveaway category and ads category)
- Once the generate button was clicked the initial output would be in a jpeg image file (so that the user could not simply copy and paste and then continue to generate more than their 5 newsletters a month). [NOTE] There could be other ways to do this which are easier and we are happy to hear your ideas but generating an IMAGE was one way we thought of that would work.
Once they were happy with the newsletter they could then approve it and generate a text file.
- Once a member accepts/approves their newsletter, the
script will never select any content used in the newsletter
again for this member. (i.e. will not repeat articles in the database in later issues)
- Script will allow members to create up to 5 separate
newsletters per month.
This will be phase #1 of the project.
The overall project will be something along these lines so please keep this in mind when bidding and programming the first phase as it would be logical to get the winning bidder to continue programming phase 2 and any subsequent updates once we are ready to proceed with them.
Ultimately we will want the script to be able to:
- generate a PDF newsletter
- generate an html newsletter (adding a users header and template)
- plus some other features which we are still working through.
You are bidding on Phase #1 of this project ONLY at this point as there is no guarantee as to when we will proceed with phase #2 (if at all)
This is basically just a GLORIFIED Find and Replace script so it should be relatively easy for a competent programmer to create cost effectively and fairly quickly.
We are open to suggestions too on features.
We have attached a copy of the current newsletter software so that you can get an idea of what it currently does. The downside with the .exe file amongst other things is that all members get the same newsletter whereas the online script will randomly take articles from the database and also allow a member to choose articles based on keyword.
As we say - this should be a fairly simple project for a competent programmer.
