Hello Sir, I am core SQL Server DBA with 15+years of experience .Managed 1000+ Instances from Azure SQL database Managed Instance ,Single database, Elastic pools , SQL Server on VM 2000-2019 versions ,I am proficient in all activities of SQL Server Administration and Development . Have worked on number of performance Tuning assignments , I guarantee will find the root cause of your DTU spike and provide my recommendations to solve them . DTU usage is combination of CPU, IO, & Memory and high DTU usage must be some process that runs from your application continually that causes this spike .Do we did any recent changes that cause this issues ? , I mean when it was started ? . What code changes were deployed recently. • Are there known situations where DTU usage can swing severely without a correlated uptick in usage? No • Are there inherent weaknesses in the Azure SQL Database platform? No • Are there known issues in SQL Server with using GUID data types for non-clustered indexes or foreign key relationships? yes avoid GUID datatype as it consumes 4 times larger than the traditional 4-byte index value ,this can have serious performance • We are seeing notable index fragmentation for the GUID-based indexes (expected); is this possibly the culprit even though it is not a new condition? I don't think the DTU spike is associated with this fragmentation, though we can run a rebuild • Is there a recommended fill factor for indexes built on GUID columns?” start with 90

Guid give out performance by default in ms SQL reached one level of records, that helps little bit with fill factor to 70% I have 15 years experience of large scale web API, Microsoft platform applications development, deployment, performance tuning in .Net classic , MVC and core with MS SQL 2014,2016,2019 and hosting on azure , private data center Give one chance to resolve this issue. Hi, I've read through the description of your project and find it intriguing. I have a few ideas as to what could be the underlying cause and how to go about resolving it. To address your questions, a DTU is an aggregated metric combining several different metrics several of which can be dramatically impacted by sources outside of a change in usage patterns. Azure SQL Database does have some weaknesses as it is a compromise that restricts the overall ability of the end user to fine tune settings in exchange for all of that being automated for you, it's more of an off-the-rack suit vs one tailored for the wearer. Generally speaking, using GUIDs for indexes and relationships should not cause a problem outside of the tricky one that you have noticed regarding index maintenance. Indexes based on GUIDs work best when treated differently than Indexes based on other data types with regards to maintenance. Feel free to message me so we can further discuss the project.

I have been working as a SQL Developer for the past seven months, and during that time I have worked for database modelling and designing phase of development. I used Lucid, Visio tools for diagrams. I have developed a strong understanding of the SQL language and database systems. I am well-versed in using various SQL and TSql commands to query and manipulate data, and I have experience creating and maintaining databases. I am good with writing DDL, DML statements, writing complex scripts, writing procedures, functions, triggers, views etc. I am also familiar with using various software tools to help with database development and administration. I am also a little bit also in DBA tasks like backup, restore, and slow query profiling and index maintenance. I am also familiar with SSRS reporting development.
