Thank you for your time. Sickle cell disease has been recognized in the United States for 103 years. Within that time, we’ve made great strides. Children now live far beyond the age of 14 and they live into adulthood, *um* but there have been some gaps, *um* meaning that we only have one FDA approved drug for sickle cell disease. *um* We now, because children are living into adulthood, we have a system of care that’s very fragmented, so we’re starting to see a lot of high ER visits and in-patient visits and the lack of care coordination in the community *um* is very dramatic, and so we are also starting to see early mortality in adolescent and young adult patients. Because of that *um*, I, you know, thought and thought and thought about it and figured out how can we best address this need. *um* In the past I had a sickle cell program *um* within a community-based hospital, so I moved that to literally the community, and now we have the nation’s first out-patient sickle cell disease treatment program that not only provides care, but it also provides services, so we address many of the psycho-social services that the patients have. So we’ve formed the sickle cell care and research network and it’s called a network for a reason, so although the first center is in Hollywood, Florida we know that we’ll need more centers, so the goal is to have additional networks throughout the state of Florida, throughout the East Coast, and throughout the United States, and have satellite centers in other countries where we’re collaborative partners.
