Generating PDFs and MS Word documents from web pages is actually quite straightforward. My preference is to use PHP (8/8.1) then I can use the FPDF and PHPWord libraries. The main issue between the two formats is that with dynamic PDFs you can have an issue with text flow. This is where you say, allow a certain space for your form element, then when you insert this in your template, you either find a lot of white space around the text, or you have the text overflowing. Word is easier as it will reflow... PDFs don't. (which is the reason why its useless for e-readers) I use a visual trick to overcome this. To deliver the PDF to the end-user, you can either serve it dynamically - this means they never have a link to a downloadable document, or you could generate it then provide a link to it. Either way it's the same generation technique. I have many years experience of document production work, (I started with employment contract generation using WordPerfect) I have even done a PHP project with imageMagick to generate graphics then insert them into a PDF document for the end-user. To get started, I would just need the templates, with the dynamic form areas identified. As a deliverable I would create some standard bootstrap 5 based forms, based on a heading and footer. If required I could host this on one of my own servers, for development. (you would login to view it) I would then deliver the entire web folder to you as a zip file. Thanks for reading.
