Dear Andrew, I am a bioinformatics PhD student at University of Cambridge, United Kingdom. As part of my research, I have extensive experience in applying and implementing statistical models to analyse biological data. Although nowadays I mostly use R and Perl for my analyses, my primary software used to be Excel and Visual Basic in my previous lab where I did research for four years. My own field of research is cancer genomics, but I am confident that I will be able to transfer my methods and skills successfully to generate the Excel formulae that you need. I have a Master's degree in biology, but I have also taken almost three years equivalent of undergraduate level courses in statistics and computer science. It is because of my formal training background in both biology and statistics that I believe I will be able to both understand that literature that you provided, as well as implement the statistical methods therein. As tangible evidence of my scientific productivity, I have a number of articles accepted or under consideration in top scientific journals. These journals include Science (Makinen et al. 2011), Nature Genetics, Nature Biotechnology, Cell and two Nature manuscripts. I can provide details on these manuscripts if you are interested.
