Dedicated hosting articles

I am looking for 2 long articles about dedicated servers, one for "managed" and one for "non managed". These articles should include what elements go into the "Management of the hosting". I'm looking for details, no waffle, but in plain english. These two articles should collectively help readers to decide which is right for them as server providers don't offer any details about what is required to manage a server if the client takes a "non managed" one. I am sure that for each element of server management there are good and bads ways of doing it. Guidance regards the variation of sevices qualities provided by managed solution providers would also be very useful. In other words...how do you identify one that goes beyond just doing the job and actually does it well. This element of the articles could be phrased as "questions to ask potential hosting providers".
