I need to have a paragraph of text converted into two column text, using html tables and the exact procedure outlined below: Input arguments example total width = 700 2nd column = 3 3rd column = 18 4th column = 32 (1st and last width is calculated from the above) middle background color = #800000 font face = "Courier New" font size = 2 characters per line = 30 (calculate this?) The original text:... The text needs to be split into two columns as shown here: [login to view URL] so that it is read top - down rather than left to right. Please note - preference will be given to a coder that can determine font width in pixels in 'real time' so that the 'number of characters' input variable is not required. Input arguments are as described on the given link - make sure that the input text area for original text is 'aware' of hard breaks, because those have to be followed in the table. In each table cell you need to enter max number of characters (but do not split words). Script has to be written in PHP and web based - after clicking on OK button the resulting table needs to be displayed as well as actual html code (display it below the table using
attribute, or some other way where I can easily cut and paste it without having to look at the source code.
This script has to be easily convertable into a function that can be called up from another PHP program (I might use it in non-web based environment - please write structured code)

TO all bidders:
Please note a slight change on :

example. Now, number of characters is not necessary variable because I am using absolute width (11pt in table definition) - so you don't have to worry about function that returns char width - simply divde 1st cell size by char widrh (330/11) to get max chars
