repair script issue on my google sheet and write one additional script

We use a google sheet to keep track of projects. this project is to resolve two issues with our current google sheet. Issue #1 we currently use function =if(isblank(D5),0,TODAY()-D5) to let us know when a project was started. As we add additional lines we sometimes forget to copy the function to the new lines. Issue #2 One of the columns adds a date when data is entered into a different column. The script was working but is no longer working. Diagnose and repair script so. Write script so that we no longer need the function.
