QTP way back in 1990s When the tool started to define what is automation to the world taking over from it sibling which was called WinRunner, which use to compete with other tools in the market.
But QTP emerged as a sole competitor for other tools the decade and now with its new version advance version UFT, it is now far way from the reach of other competitors.

QTP which is basically working on the object hierarchy and object properties defined by developers, addition to this, Xpath is also supported which does enable in identify unique object from the Application under test.
When it comes to coding ability, it does not require much skilled coder, as it supports both Java script as well its primary language VB script and the tool itself is well accustomed with many features write basic automation scripts , and just limiting to normal functional testing, its given flexibility to test web-services.
