I want to create a cool website that will allow people to go online and keep a dive logbook. The dive logbook will then be stored as a google spreadsheet in their Google Account.
The intent is that anyone can log onto the internet right after their dives and input them into the system, so they don't need to carry a dive logbook with them.
The web page must be able to do the following:
Have them create an account using their gmail account.
Have a simple form that will have them enter the details of their dive. The site will be similar to [login to view URL], except that the data will not be kept on any site: The data will be stored in a Google Spreadsheet.
The whole point of this endeavour is to have people own their own data, instead of having a bunch of sites own it. While the data will reside on Google, the ubiquity of Google and the ability to export that data elsewhere is important.
More details:
The divebook entries must be easy to use and include the following fields:
Dive Site Name
Dive Site Location (Place, Country, and if possible, latitude/longitude)
Link to Google Maps to display Dive Site Location
Diver Level (open-water, adv, etc)
Date
time
Air Temp
Water Temp
Visibility
Weather
Time In
Time Out
Compute duration
Dive Buddy
Max Depth
Dive Profile:
Depth 1
Time @ Depth 1
Depth 2
Time @ Depth 2
etc...
Simple computations of underwater time, pressure groups, decompression limits.
A comment box.
The data from each dive must be saved into a separate TAB of the spreadsheet.
The first TAB of the spreadsheet should be a "master." It must have the following: The diver's name, number of dives, a google map with a pin of all the dives on it (or a link to a map of them). It must also have a list of all their dives. the list should be sortable by date, depth, place, with hyperlinks to the specific dive.
I will also need help in identifying an inexpensive server/company to host the site.
Designing the site interface should be scalable so that if we wish to design other Google Spreadsheet interface sites, we can do so easily.
I am admittedly a first time purchaser, so I expect the bidder to ask clarification questions, and will post those questions and their answers.
I expect this site design is not that difficult - just a few pages. And learning to use the Google Spreadsheet API is a useful task for the programmer. I have other ideas for more sites using Google Docs.
Also note that Diving Magazines are nearly free for a year subscription because divers typically take one trip a year. The commission we might be able to generate from just a few divers taking a $4000 dive trip are substantial, and I am willing to split the proceeds with the right person, as I have already lined up sponsorships in Honduras, Egypt, and Indonesia.
Happy Bidding!
