Automate Microsoft Excel Report with VBA/Macro

I have a monthly excel report which require some manual data updates and manipulation to get the report every month. I would like to automate this process. I have a main sheet (cover page) with a number of sub-sheets which stores/calculates the data used by the main sheet. - update the current month effective date, normally the end of each calendar month. A simple insert of the drop down calendar menu will work - get some stock quotes for the current month. We have the API/Excel Function ready and need to automatically populate all the prices based on the effective dates. If you have other better APIs on stocks, please feel free to use it. - backup all the last files in the current working directory (just copy over to a new directory) and rename/copy the current month files to the working directory - retrieve some data from the current month files and find the top 5 or top 10 winners based on a simple price criterion - update the cover page with the top 5 winners and do some calculation and updates. The calculation part is simply a percentage calculation, i.e., sub item / total etc - several other small tweaks I am setting an initial budget to start at $50 and will increase as we proceed with more changes. This is expected to be done in 2 or 3 days.
