Imagine you are an assistant to the senior finance director and she has given you the task to assess the competition in the market with a viewpoint of developing increasing market share in developing countries. Your tasks are to produce a research report to finance, marketing and sales directors at the next meeting. In your report include the following: Task No.1 a. What is the objective of a firm operating in any given market structure? Explain all the different market structures with characteristics of each market structure. Give examples of firms operating in each market structure. (2.1) b. Draw and compare different graphs explaining the prices and quantity produced in each market structures [perfect competition, Monopolistic competition (one for short run and long run each)]. In the same graph also describe the AR curve, MR curve, AC, AR, profits in each case. (2.2) c. Analyze how the main different characteristics the market structures (described in part a) affect the graphs, quantities, prices and profits of firms operating in each market structure. (2.3) Task No. 2 a. What is kinked demand curve? Why do only firms in oligopoly markets have a kinked demand curve? Explain your answer with the help of graph. b. Evaluate in full detail the impact of kinked demand curve in oligopoly markets on the prices? Support your answers with some examples from firms operating in oligopoly markets. (2.4)
