Overview: The application fetches the newsml/xml files from the remote server with a scheduled ftp program, parses them and populates a staging table. The records in the staging table are updated through a data entry screen, followed by a QA process. Once the records are approved by QA, the records are moved into a production system. The framework used is LAMP (linux-apache-mysql-php). The preferred utilities are shell script, cron job, ncftp and open source xml parsers. Any third party products that will be a part of the solution need to be discussed upfront.
