They have two totaly different network systems, a CAD/CAM network with Dec Alpha machines running on UNIX and an IBM system with windows desktops. For historical reasons there is no interaction between the networks. The CAD system is used for pump design and the resulting design templates; resource requirement specifications are all manually transferes to the IBM system for costing, ordering and customer invoicing. A number of re-formatting programs have been developed to make this transition [login to view URL] the company is very efficient at pump design and manufacture they have realised that they are not taking full advantage of current Internet and e-bussiness technology. They also realised that if they do not expand into Europe they may loose their Ishare of the market. At the last strategy meeting it was agreed that the company should open a European site that would be the design and central administration center. It was also decided that best use should be made of distributed web technology to maximize e-bussiness [login to view URL] a pre-cursor to formulating the required strategy each department head has been tasked with providing a preliminary feasibility study documenting all relevant issues and providing research for their particular area. As part of the preliminary IT feasibility study your department has been asked to look at the technologies for providing distributed web applications. ## Deliverables 1) Complete and fully-functional working program(s) in executable form as well as complete source code of all work done. 2) Deliverables must be in ready-to-run condition, as follows (depending on the nature of the deliverables): a) For web sites or other server-side deliverables intended to only ever exist in one place in the Buyer's environment--Deliverables must be installed by the Seller in ready-to-run condition in the Buyer's environment. b) For all others including desktop software or software the buyer intends to distribute: A software installation package that will install the software in ready-to-run condition on the platform(s) specified in this bid request. 3) All deliverables will be considered "work made for hire" under U.S. Copyright law. Buyer will receive exclusive and complete copyrights to all work purchased. (No GPL, GNU, 3rd party components, etc. unless all copyright ramifications are explained AND AGREED TO by the buyer on the site per the coder's Seller Legal Agreement). **_Tasks: _**1. You have been asked to give a brief report (one side of A4) on one of a number of enterprise solutions for providing distributed we applications. This should include any positive and negative issues for its adoption. 2. You have also been asked to develop a small distributed web application. You may develop this in any language or combination of languages that you feel is appropriate. However the program must exhibit the following criteria: a). The application must be something on the scenario above., b).The application must be based on a client server topology., c).You must be able to show client and server side scripting.,d). The client should ideally be browser based but it can be a stand alone client if server access is via URL.,e).The client must have a simple GUI., f).The application must contain one identifiable security feature(e.g. log-in). ## Platform the application can be created in any language or combination of languages.
