We have a one-off requirement for a MongoDB expert to look into one of our software applications which we believe is suffering from poor read/write performance. The application and database sit on different servers within the Amazon Cloud services. The servers are Linux and are fairly well spec’d (App and DB servers are [login to view URL] and Engine server is [login to view URL]). The application is written using a mixture of web and backend tools from the MEAN stack. We can provide temporary administrator access to the MongoDB server and user/UI access to the system to fire DB commands. We need someone to look at the read/write characteristics of the application and the MongoDB configuration and tell us what might be inefficient. We can provide further information and detail, on request. We envisage this stage of the project being an initial investigation only, up to a day working with our own team to review performance.

Hello, I have many years of experience with databases including Postgres, MongoDB, MySQL. I've managed fairly large instances (hundreds of GBs and billions of rows) including standalone instances and sharded clusters with MongoDB. I'm also an experienced Linux user and Python developer. How large is the dataset you are working with and what data does it hold? If your MongoDB working set does not fit into memory the performance can drop significantly. I would start with data / index analysis and OS monitoring (disk IO, CPU usage). Best wishes, iticus

Mongodb poor performance is due to a poor choice of indexes, you need to make a careful choice of indexes based on the queries, it is easy to do and you can find in the documentation of Mongo or StackOverflow.
