The radius of the active electrode is 0.75 mm. The outer surface of the electrode has a voltage V =100 volts and a temperature Ti=5 C. Far from the electrode (ro = 0.1 m) the voltage is zero and the temperature of the tissue is the basal temperature Ta+q˙m/(ρaωCa), where Ta=37◦C.. The tissue has electrical conductivity σ = 0.188 S/m. The thermal properties of the tissue are k = 0.512 W/m·K, ρ = ρa = 1000kg/m3, C = Ca = 3600 J/kg·K and ω = 0.0005 s−1, and ˙qm=700 W/m3. Determine how long it takes for the tissue to reach a temperature of 100◦C. Plot the temperature profiles of the tissue at different times up to the time at which it reaches 100◦C. Use Arrhenius method to determine the volume of tissue damaged by the time the tissue has reached 100◦C. Compare your results using two different mesh divisions: 20 finite volumes and 200 finite volumes in the radial direction.
