I need someone who can solve the following math problem: Find the exact value of the improper integral for: 1/(x^12+1) from -∞ to ∞ I know the answer to the question, so I will know if you have done it correctly. I simply need help working out the problem. You must be able to show every step leading to the answer to the problem and can only use skills learned in a standard calculus 2 class. Hello Miles, I offer an elaboration of the integration you are asking for by means of both canonical approaches applicable to this class of problems, which are (i) partial fraction decomposition of the rational integrand, integration of the proper integral, and evaluation of its limit, and (ii) an application of the residue theorem. For the first approach, I offer to demonstrate integrating the decomposition of the integrand into (a) complex terms with single poles and (b) real rational functions with quadratic denominators (and linear nominators). Integration I have calculated your integral. The numerical answer is 2.02303 and it can be analytically represented as a product of two gamma functions. There are at least two ways to arrive at the answer, I believe: Please specify if your Calculus 2 program include such topics as 1) gamma function, beta-function or 2) contuor integration in the complex plane (residues and all that..) In getting the answer, I used the relationship between the beta and gamma functions.
