Cut and Paint Layers

The theory for this process is to cut out the “layers” in a painting and then fill in the “missing” portions of the rear layers . This will allow for parallax and movement of the front layers without seeing "holes" behind them. 1.) I begin with creating the background. Make a copy of the original image and rename it "Layer 1." Using the cloning and various other tools, fill in about 3 cm into the objects in front of the background. 2.) Create the layer in front of the background by making another copy of the original image and rename it "Layer 2." Add a layer mask to that layer and "paint" out everything that would be behind it (with the mask selected a white brush fills in and a black brush erases). Sharp edges are easier while hair and other soft edges require some feathering. In the areas where there are objects in front of this layer that will be a separate layer, be sure and follow the same process used in step 1. 3.) Repeat step 2 until all layers are complete.
