I have a basic C# .NET web application that logs power sensor data to a database posted by a simple web url. This is so power meters etc can log their results – kwh/volts etc in to a database on a regular interval. The base ‘data collector’ service works well and logs data in to a Microsoft SQL database.
Database is simple structure:
Account <1:many> Device <1:many> Sensor <1:many> SensorResult
There are a handful of other power monitoring sites out there as well with simple documented API’s of how to push data in to their services as well.
My Web Service is a very simple version of one of these and can essentially collect ‘any type’ of data – its key=value in the SensorResult table.
These are other systems i am interested in working with:
• Bidgely
• DeviceBit
• EmonCMS
• PVOutput
• ThingSpeak
Short Term, I want my app to log the data to the SQL database as it does now +
• post the data to the above power monitoring system APIs. I have basic notes on the API’s above and can provide info.. most are just a basic JSON or XML request and their public websites explains how to post data or you can download an API doc.
I am not sure if it makes sense to have an asynchronous process that goes over the sensor result in my main database and ‘lazy’ writes them out to these other API’s? rather than fire inside my code that logs the data to my SQL db and hold up the write to my DB..
This means I can take my power data collections and log to multiple other systems to compare the results
• Creation of a Customer Facing Web Site Portal
• Ideally, the web app would and have the concept of an ‘Account’ (table in the database) – a sign up page to create/edit an account
• Once logged in you could see associated ‘Devices’, and their Sensors/details
(I can associate device with account directly in DB... no need to make this connection).
• You could See nice looking graphs of your sensor results
• A particular sensor (or total of sensors) in the databases’s results over time in a bar graph, like the images attached.
• Drill down to yearly, monthly, daily, hourly totals
• The sensor has a concept of + or - . Ideally this graph would show the inversed number within the graph data of a sum of negative sensors over a sum of positive sensors.
Example Sum of all + Sensors shown as the total block on the bar graph with a different colour block inside the main block showing the – Sensors.
Power Consumption as the total, and then sub block of Power Generated (from a – Sensor) for example.
