Development of a desktop printer monitor program capable of retrieving information from a printer using WMI and PJL/PCL/PML. The key focal point here is to display ink levels for each cartridge in the printer.
The technical solution is pivotal to us - the look and feel of the program is of less importance for this project.
Functional requirements:
* Retrieve printer cartridge ink level info and display it to the user
* Retrieve total pages printed, total color pages and total black\white pages
* Platform(s): win XP - > Win 7
* Should be able to monitor local printers connected via USB\parallel
* Should work with network printers
* Only need to monitor the default printer
* Detect if the default printer is a virtual printer
* Add a fallback option in cases where printer ink levels can not be retrieved via PJL\PML. This could be achieved by implementing a simple algorithm which calculates rough estimates of ink levels.
* No third party dependencies
Technology:
VS 2010 using VB.NET or C#
Skills Required:
.NET (VB\C#)
In-depth knowledge of WMI
In-depth knowledge of PJL\PML
Good communication skills
Deliverables:
* Source code (ready to compile) delivered as VS 2010 project
* Well documented and structured code
* This will be a commercially redistributed program,
and all ownership and rights will be transferred to us upon
completion of the project and payment of the agreed upon price.
