I graduated the faculty of Building Services within the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca, Romania, in 2009, obtaining the Bachelor’s Degree and title of Engineer in Building Services. During the 4 years of study at university I learned numerous subjects in Building Services such as: heating systems, ventilation and air conditioning systems, low voltage electrical installations, gas systems, automation equipment, sanitary installations, and plumbing.
In the second year at university I joined SC SAFIT INST SRL, a gas design company, for a part time job as a technical consultant. The job helped me develop my technical engineering skills and put in practice the studies learnt at university. After obtaining the Bachelor Degree, I was offered a full time job as a Gas Design Engineer within the same company. Shortly after that I took the Romanian National Gas Approved Engineer exam and was licensed to design gas systems up to 2 bar. At first I was involved in more simple projects such as gas design for flats or houses, but with accumulating more experience, I got involved in more complex projects, such as gas distribution on housing estates or industrial plants. My main activities as a gas design engineer included drafting, hydraulic calculus, site surveys, producing project specifications, coordination with architects, contractors, main gas supplier and client. Where projects were more complex including other type of services such as electrical, heating or plumbing services I was involved in the coordination of these services with gas design. I have worked on numerous gas design projects from concept to completion and successfully implemented these during the 4 years I was with SC SAFIT INST SRL.
I obtained the Master’s Degree in Building Services in 2011, after two more years spent at the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca. The studies included the same subjects studied in the first four years spent at university, but at a much more complex level.
In 2011 I decided to move to the United Kingdom and develop my technical engineering skills in a more complex environment. I joined Blue Planet Consulting Limited, a building services design company, in October 2011 as a Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing (MEP) Design Engineer. My main responsibilities include producing building services reports, MEP calculus, drawings and specifications, feasibility studies, site surveys, building services site condition reports, coordination and liaison with the client, contractor, structural engineers and architects, designing according to Building Regulations, CIBSE guides and UK standards, setting up Operation and Maintenance Manuals and Health and Safety Files, conducting site safety inspections.
