to write a code to use dirctory /tmp

I have a vBulletin version 5 forum. Currently this forum is using for PHP setting: upload_tmp_dir
But that directory is not set by my webhost.
The vBulletin 5 forum is however not able, right now, to use the default directory which is /tmp.
So i need someone to write a code that would allow the vBulletin forum to use the system default of /tmp
I will need to see all the changes that were made to the code.

Should be something as simple as: if (!ini_get('upload_tmp_dir')) ini_set('upload_tmp_dir', '/tmp'); you can do that yourself!
