I like to have a simple application / software to create bar code for my own internal use to be used on documents / products.

This application will have an api so that my other application can call it with information and get the results back.

To read / write bar code it will connect with mysql database.

I am also looking at some commercial software.

So tell me what are the benefits of creating our own bar code reader / writer.

Let me know what you can do and what language.
