Task:
In gaining an understanding of the current IT industry’s opportunities, your career opportunities and options,
you are required to assess your own individual qualities and immediate career aspirations and, where you
would like to be in three (3) and five (5) years.
1. You are required to perform a personal SWOT analysis using the framework that you are about to
commence looking for employment. (500 words max)
2. You are required to use the outcome of the personal SWOT analysis and identify (at least) two (2)
potential graduate positions from any two (i.e. one position per avenue) of the following three
avenues that you would like to move into upon completing your studies:
a. Internet
b. Recruitment Agencies
c. Networks – Personal and Industry
Also from these avenues identify two (relatively senior) positions that represent the kinds of job you
would like to move into in 3 to 5 years. That is: select two potential graduate positions and two
(relatively) senior positions from any two avenues (4 positions in total). [Note: It is preferable that
the senior position be selected from the same company as the graduate position if one is available,
otherwise it can be selected from another company.] Explain briefly why you have selected the 4
positions (300 words max)?
3. For each graduate position selected (two positions) identify the key components that the employer is
looking for in prospective candidates; and identify (based on SWOT) how you can meet these key
components. For the two relatively senior positions that you would aspire to move into in the future,
identify the skills you need to develop and associated learning strategies you would adopt in order to
progress to these positions. (There should be a minimum of 200 words and maximum of 300 words
per each entry level position and senior position – 4 positions in total. That is 1200 words max for
Section 3)
4. to select four (4) target companies to investigate potential for employment upon graduation. Access the
companies’ websites and answer the following questions (reflection is required):
• What is it about the company that attracts you?
• Why do you want to work there? (Leverage your analyses in Sections 1 and 3.)
