Design a userfriendly GUI for objects hiarchially organized in a tree list

This task is to come upp with a UI Design for an application where we need to manage a large number of remote controllers spread out in different cities. We need some kind of tree list on the right side to select an object and depending and on the on the right side there should information page and functions to perform on the controllers.

Not really looking for a traditional treelist such as in Windows explorer.

We have an existing design/style that must be considered to some extent.

## Deliverables

The controllers are hiarchially organized in a tree list. Today the levels are as follows:

City

District

Area

Site

Controller

The controllers are physical devices while CIty, District, Area and Site are logical tree nodes.

We would like to have a GUI where we have a workable and nice looking tree list on the left side. When you select a tree node there will be more information on the righ side. The right side could be a page with tabs grouping information and actions. Depending on the type object selected to the left there will be different types of tabs.

For example.

If we select a City node the corresponding page could be a page with six tabs.

Main tab: Basic information about the controller in the whole city

Alarm List: An alarm list with alarms from the selected city.

Administrate:

Statistics: energy data

Map View:

A Site node can have other tabs corresponding to a Site Object.

The tree list should not hace a too technical look. I rather not have a tree list such as the standard windows explorer. I would like something more web like and modern. Also we already have an existing GUI so there must be taken some consideration to the existing style. Of course there will be changes but I rather have an improvement/ face lift based on the existing style if possible. Even though the existing GUI has many inconsistences.

I know that it can be difficult to estimate this type of project. The bid can be for a first step where a design is outlined then we can handle details in another project.
