Magento search module for external customer database

I require a Module for the Sales_Order_Grid in Magento Admin. The requirement is to have the ability to search and retrieve customer order records held in a separate external database and save them in Magento. The purpose of this module is to prevent mass import of sales/customer and order data from the legacy database. The module needs to be able to retrieve the data, display it in the sales order grid and then save into Magento in order to view cancel/reorder etc... Basically the data needs to be treated in the same way as Magento sales order data once it is imported.
