Instead of showing the large version of the thumbnail, show an album containing photos. (next gen gallery)
For example:
I have 2 galleries. First gallery is called first and second is called second.
The first contains 2 images: blue and black
The second contains 3 images: purple white and green
Now you see 2 thumbs. If you click the first, you can browse through blue and black.
If you click the second thumb, you browse purple white and green.
And then I need to set a thumbnail for each gallery
