Adjust navigation from static menu to jQuery slide out menu

I will be using the Wordpress Theme at [login to view URL]
You can see the navigation bar on the left. I would like to change the behavior of the navigation bar a bit though.
When you go into a gallery in the navigation i would like the navigation bar to slide over to the left so that only a slim bar is still visible and give more space for the content. When the user moves the mouse over this area the navigation will slide out again. It should function like on this site: [login to view URL]
The navigation bar is visible. When you click on one of their featured work items (in my case it would be selecting a gallery in the navigation) you see how the navigation bar slides to the left and makes more space for the content.
When a none gallery item such as the About page or Contact page is selected the navigation should not slide away.
This theme is responsive. The modified menu has to continue to function on iPads and tablets. The navigation on an iPhone or Android phone would remain the same navigation as it currenly is.
Please let me know if you understood the exact requirements.
