convert google map link to latitude and longitude - PHP code for webpage

I have an existing google maps link that changes depending on the city name in the link. I need someone to write php code that takes the link and converts it to latitude and longitude. These coordinates will then need to be places into variables:

$lat

$long

Here is the google map that I would like to use:

<iframe

width="100%"

height="250"

frameborder="0" style="border:0"

src="[url removed, login to view]<?php echo $city; ?>">

</iframe>

The city variable is declared when the page loads, so the looks like this when loaded: [url removed, login to view]

This should be a pretty easy project for someone with PHP experience. We should be able to finish this project in a couple of hours.
