Development of a modular product design for Li-Ion Batteries

We need ASAP a Mechanical Engineer or Industrial Product designer on-site in Bangalore.

The Candidate MUST be ready to starting this month (March).

Solarbox is a super early stage startup in stealth mode. We're in early prototyping stage. The core idea is to built an innovative solar product which is dramatically simple, powerful, beautiful and connected. We are building a very different and dramatically simple off-grid approach to go for solar energy then anything which exists in the market so far. The product is supporting especially people in remote poorly electrified areas in India and is basically an all-in-one box concept with the necessary technology seamlessly to be integrated. We have a very first prototype ready and want to take the next steps in product development.

For the next stage of the product, a modular battery bank has to be designed which will have one original core design, being used in two battery technologies - Cell Batteries (18650s) and Smartphone Batteries (vary in size and shape). It has to an modular design, where battery cells can be dynamically added as per user requirement, where each battery will have a single slot. The technology inside the battery will manage the charge and discharge of individual cells and also sent data to the cloud.

The first design ideas are there, but the candidate literally starts from scratch and will be guided and assisted by us along that process. The product’s dimension is similar to a shoe box.

The final deliverable in a 3-months time frame are 3 iterations of a prototype until we have a final design that is fully functional and out of ABS. The candidate needs to be able in contributing to the creative part to a certain extend and more over handling end-to-end the physical prototyping with 100% ownership.

The candidate will work in a professional and exciting professional workshop in the centre of Bangalore ([url removed, login to view]).

Key requirements:

- Experience in handling Acrylic Glass and ABS plastic

- Ability to create molds

- Strong exposure and experience in building sketches and CAD models

Hands-on experience in designing products and building prototypes

- Ability to prepare and make 3D Prints

- Ability to integrate the Circuit Board and physical terminals touching each cell in an intelligent way into the product design

- Ability to design and integrate a battery level indicator

- Integrate positive and negative terminals to the product

- Creative person with dedication to beautiful and aesthetic product design

- Self-driven, reliable, professional and proactive person who’s able to operate under tight timelines

Not clear now, to be decided:

- Which ABS material exactly we choose

- If we go for a mold or not

- Which parts of the product we design via 3D Printer

- If we need two designs (for Laptop Cell Batteries and one for smartphone batteries) or one
