Cancer Alliance of Marion County (CAMC) in partnership with American Cancer Society (ACS) will lease the charge to increase colorectal screenings with the charge to increase colorectal cancer screenings throughout Marion County, Florida. Colorectal cancer is preventable, treatable, and beatable in most cases. CAMC has received a grant through HUGS Charities of Ocala for funding the screenings for at risk individuals with no insurance.
Gastroenterology Associates of Ocala have offered their services for the screening and will open their lab on Staurdays.
With earlier detection and treatment of colorectal cancer, patients can receive much more cost-effective care enabling them a higher quality of life, a faster return to work, and hopefully even a curative option - something not too often available in many cancer treatments.
We just are encouraging screening for anyone 45 years of age or up! Or anyone who has a family history may need to talk with his/her MD about screening. The biggest take-away is that colon cancer can be detected and removed BEFORE the cells become cancerous therefore PREVENTING the cells from becoming cancer or they can be removed EARLY STAGE when the cure rate is 90 percent! Unfortunately and sadly, if the colon cancer is found at a later stage the CURE rate drops to only 10 percent.

Who does one contact for the screening? The screening is for those who have had an initial concerning screening (likely via a FIT test) through one of the two federally qualified health clinic’s here in Marion County. (heart of florida or Langley health). The patient will need to be evaluated by their physician with these health clinics and will need to be screened through our local “We Care” program to see if they meet criteria.
