You have been approached by a new start-up tech company, Prague Space Geeks” to offer some business advice about leadership styles, organizational structure and culture. The nature of the owners is extremely tech oriented. Due to their lack of knowledge and experience within the business world you have decided to utilize familiar scenarios in the form of science fiction to explain relevant business concepts to them and aid their comprehension and allow them to build and expand their business.
Tasks:
Your task is to write an analysis of two organizational structures and cultures; including a discussion about what effects different structures and cultures may have on the performance of each organization. Further you are to focus on the individual differences you observe in the two organizations among the characters. Finally, you will identify and compare the leadership styles in terms of their effectiveness portrayed in the scenarios.
As a basis for your analysis, use Starfleet and the Klingon Empire from the Sci-fi movie and series Star Trek (see list of movies and episodes on Moodle):
1. compare the (different) organizational structures and cultures from the two scenarios; include precise descriptions of the situations, on which your findings are based (the source, minutes in a movie or episode) (1.1)
2. choose one of the environments and explain the effects that this particular combination of structure and culture may have on the performance of the organization (1.2)
3. discuss some of the individual differences that are particularly relevant and influence people's behaviour in the given settings (1.3)
4. compare the leadership styles of the organizations and their effectiveness within the organization (2.1
All words processed must be 12 point font, double spaced and include a signed and correctly dated standard Prague College assignment coversheet. All sources of information must be correctly using the Harvard Referencing system (see Cite them Right for details). There is no word limit for this assignment. The report must be submitted as a .pdf file to the Assignment link on Moodle by the given deadline. Be mindful of grammar.
