Convert and re-rig 3ds Max biped character to Cinema4d and Motionbuilderr

I have 21 AXYZ Metropoly HD characters which are rigged. I require these to be converted for use in Cinema4d and also Motionbuilder. Unfortunately i cannot use the standard FBX export as the 3ds mesh use turbo smooth (maybe this is away but i dont know it). The only way i can forsee doing this is to export as .obj and export rig as FBX and then bind and re-rig in C4d. this would require vertex weight mapping. this is only one approach..im sure there are better. The final rig should be able to be used in Motionbuilder and be correctly formatted for characterization. i can provide a sample character in 3dsmax but its too large to attached.
