Create a WMS (Web Map Service) from data stored in Mongo and rendered using Mapnik.

We have data that is stored in a mongo database that needs to be rendered in a map client. We would like you to develop a WMS (Web Map Service) that pulls data from our mongo database, renders it with mapnik, and then serves it to the map client.

The data being stored is harvest records from fruit trees. When cherries are harvested, we pay by the box and each box is picked up and recorded with an iPhone. We store the amount of boxes that were picked up and the location. In 400 acres of cherries, there are approximately 800,000 records.

Here is a youtube video of something that we animated in an adobe product. It's not flashy, but you get the idea of seeing the little square acres being harvested and you can see where parts of the field have poor yields.

I have included a detailed document with all of the software that I want. Here is the job.

Create a mongo database with a collection that has two fields in it. Location field and a quantity field. Fill it full of 100,000 random points (lat/lon) with random quantities between 1 and 5 over approximately 100 acres.

The build the WMS using the tools that I described in the attached document. Develop a simple webpage that uses [url removed, login to view] to display the data. Document everything that you do because we will publish as an example for the developer community. We will then use the same tools you build to point it against our mongo database and install the tools on our servers. If all things work well, we will spent more time cleaning up this application and we will award you with another contract of one or two months to add more features.
