Fix this SQL Problem

The following error is being encountered when an update query is executed.

[Microsoft][ODBC Driver 13 for SQL Server][SQL Server]Operand type clash: varchar is incompatible with varchar(8000) encrypted with (encryption_type = 'DETERMINISTIC', encryption_algorithm_name = 'AEAD_AES_256_CBC_HMAC_SHA_256', column_encryption_key_name = 'CEK_Auto1', column_encryption_key_database_name = 'Surf_927') collation_name = 'Latin1_General_BIN2'
UPDATE tblData SET [CREDIT CARD NO] = '5353' WHERE ClientID = '31341'

The problem is related to how the query is written and using an Always Encrypted Certificate.
The environment is:
IIS 8 webserver
SQL Express 14
Windows Server 2012 R2
Codeigniter 2.2.6
An ALWAYS ENCRYPTED certificate is being used on the column 'CREDIT CARD NO' and this is what is causing the problem.
The certificate is installed and configured correctly as decryption on a SELECT is fine.
Codeigniter framework is used in the PHP project and ACTIVE Record is used.
I have an idea of what needs to be done to resolve this, but I cannot do it personally. So to be selected for this you will need to explain to me what is causing the problem - this way I know you can fix the problem. Hint: its to do with Parametized
