Online Multiple Choice Test

The purpose of the project is to develop a dynamic website that will enable lecturers to set an online multiple choice exam to be completed by students. The system will keep an account of student scores and inform them of when tests are available to complete. There will be two types of tests, a standard one and a timed one.A very common aspect in lectures is that students find it difficult to concentrate and pay attention to lecturers. To try and overcome this problem, the proposed system will allow students to undertake online multiple choice exams which will seek to test the student’s knowledge upon the material taught in lecture. Each question will compromise of a set of four possible answers with one being correct. The system will consist of two types of tests, one standard and one timed. There will be marks awarded for each correct answer and marks deducted for incorrect answers. To avoid random guessing, no mark will be awarded for unanswered questions. Another feature of the system will be of the e-mail notification facility. Students will be notified by e-mail when tests are available to take. When they have completed a test the lecturer will be e-mailed confirming that the respective student has completed the test. The project will also develop graphs and charts for further analysis of student’s progress. This may help identify areas of weakness for a student or particular subject area students may be finding difficult to understand ## Deliverables The application will be accessed via a standard browser. It will consist of two types of tests, one standard and one timed. There will be a set of ten questions for each test, comprising of four answers for each question. The user will be requested to choose one answer. The correct answers will be shown at the end of each test, with an explanation of a question if answered incorrectly. The application should provide multiple user access simultaneously. There will be two types of access for the application, namely student and administrator. Students will be required to login with their e-mail address which must have a domain of '[login to view URL]' and a valid password. They will be able to edit their own details, just as admins can. Students will presented with a number of tests to choose from, they will be presented with radio button options to answer a question. They will be able to view previous performances. E-mail notification will be sent to students when new tests are posted, once a user has completed a test the administrator will be notified by e-mail. A warning e-mail will be sent out to a student who has not completed a test within a certain period of time. An e-mail facility will also be available for students to e-mail the administrator with regards to any problems they are experiencing. Audio feedback will be given when a user navigates through the system. The administrator will be able add, edit and delete students and tests. They will be able to view performances of students, in textual format as well as graphical format as a line graph. These graphs should be generated for individuals as well as all students. On a timed test, there should be a little time box in the corner of the screen indicating the time, it should be green at first but when the test is nearing completion time is should turn red. Once the test is timed out, the test should be submitted. Upon logging in for a administrator, they should be presented with statistical information such as last student logged in and what time. The application should be using the technology ASP using VBScript as a scripting language. It should access a Microsoft Access Database for the storing of data. All code should be heavily commented. ## Platform The ASP web pages will access a Microsoft Access database. The application will be staged on microsofts IIS server.
