I'm a young composer majored in Composition and Music Theory. One of the main interests in my studies has been the development of counterpoint, from it's origins in medieval Organum up to the highly refined (and harmonically based) counterpoint of J.S. Bach, and how Bach's technique can be applied to new music.
Regarding the contents of the class, we can sweep through traditional harmony and counterpoint in order for you to understand the basic rules and structures (always moving at your own pace), and then revise Bach's oeuvre, from Anna Magdalena's Notebooks, through Inventions, Sinfonias, and Little Fugues, all the way up to the Well Tempered Clavier, and even the Art of Fugue (on due time). This, of course, paired with contrapuntal exercises and original composition's revisions.
If you already play a bit of piano, studying Bach from its basics can be very beneficial for your playing, reading, and general understanding of the instrument. I can provide some guidance through the instrument, but the class would be focused on composition and analysis, with the piano as a learning tool.
I would be happy to help you develop as a composer and Bach-enthusiast!
