Convert JSON encoded string back into object variable

A 3rd party Floating Cart stores in a localStorage variable a string which looks to be a JSON encoded object. Want to get/decode the string as a variable. Read only.
Here is a part of an example of the localStorage string:

The structure of the data may change - so I the decoding to be able to handle changes to the data (version updates).
