We are looking at getting a teaching game developed for the IPhone and Android platforms.
Below is a list of levels in the game. The child plays the game and earns points. The points are then spent with the parents on rewards. A parent could say “if you get 50 reading points you get a reward. The games are listed in order of difficulty. A beginning student who is learning their first 10 words would probably just play Flash Cards and Bingo. As they learn more words they would be able to also play Word Detective and Word Race. Once a student has mastered they fist 50 or so high frequency words they would move on to word train and books.
Sight Words Flash Cards
Sight Words Flash Cards is a simple IPhone application that shows the student a set of sight words and explains the visual cue (a voice would explain the cue). The child would go through a list of words and once they feel they have mastered them (with and without the visual cue) they select one of the games below to test their knowledge. The games below not only use the words the child has just learned but also mixes in words the child has learned in the past.
Sight Word Bingo
A child gets a bingo card full of words that they have learned. The first two rounds are the words with visual clues. The last round is words without the visual cue. The voice calls out words and the child tries to find that word on their sheet. When the child finds the correct word the select it and that word is now marked. Once the child has made two straight lines they win that round.
Word Detective
Audio says a word and then different words are flashed on the screen. Student must click on correct word that was said by the audio. This is done both with visual clues and without.
Word Race
A series of two pr more words come up at one time - either picture or plain. Audio says a word and child must select correct word. Game is timed and points are awarded for speed and accuracy
Sentence Train
Audio says a sentence to children and they must organize words from a list into proper sentence order. At any time the student can replay the correct sentence and the sentence they have created. As the student gets more and more words learned words the sentences become more and more complicated. Non sight words (ones that need to phonics decoded) are also added to the list.
Books
Books are the final test and need to be done with a parent. The child is given an IPhone book to read containing the words they have learned. The child has the option of uncovering the picture clues if needed.
All sounds and Graphics will be provided by us. For develpment sampels may be used. We have some simple mockups of these games in the attached document.
