Hello, It would be a good option to make the device powered entirely from the coin-cell battery. This would give you an isolation with the cable under test. Also, you will cut the costs of the power supply from the cable under test. The device will be very low power and will trigger a test using a button. When the button is pressed, the device will wake from sleep, make the measurement, display the result and will go back to sleep after a waiting time of your wish, say about 20 seconds..

I have over 35 years experience as an electronic design engineer, please see my profile for more details The current price and timescales are only place holders to allow me to communicate with you I have designed quite a few resistance measurement devices in the past so I would have no problem implementing this design. What resistance range do you require? Just to be clear I assume the device is measuring DC resistance but its power supply is either 4V AC or a 3V DC battery? However if you want to use a 3V non rechargeable button battery there may be an issue with the power it can provide as this is extremely small. Would be best to use a 3.8V li-ion rechargeable coin battery this is constantly charged by the AC input voltage when available.
