I won't be able to travel though still I'd like to help you two out. I can make home automation projects which allow you to simply tell Siri on your iPhone/iPad, "turn off the bedroom lights" & it will turn off the bedroom lights. This however requires a Raspberry Pi2+WiFi dongle/RPi3, ESP8266 modules for being controlled & an iOS device capable of HomeKit. Do let me know if you'd like to discuss more. cheers Akash

I have already done this project by using arduino and esp866 and also by using ir sensor this is my project by using ir sensor When we press any button of IR Remote then the remote sends a code in form of encoded pulses using 38Khz modulating frequency. These pulses are received by TSOP1738 sensor and read by Arduino and then Arduino decodes received train of pulse into hex value and compares that decoded value with the predefined hex value of pressed button. If any match occurs then Arduino perform relative operation.
