Literature Review Assignment: Research Question and Search Strategy (part 1) You will be writing a mini literature review to address a research question of interest in the area of nutrition. For this assignment, you will gain some experience in 1) developing a research question, 2) searching for scientific literature using an online database, 3) reading, summarizing, and interpreting research articles, 4) synthesizing scientific literature in written form to answer a research question. This assignment will consist of three parts: 1) Research question and search strategy (Part 1) 2) Research article summaries/syntheses (Part 2) 3) Final paper (Part 3) This document provides instructions for part 1 only. 1) Research question and search strategy: For part 1, you will turn in: 1. Your research question 2. Search table (see pg. 18 of the Library Guide for example) 3. In two or three paragraphs, please walk me through your search process a. Discuss what you did b. Discuss which terms worked and didn’t work c. Which database(s) did you use? d. What did you end up finding? (e.g. number of articles, types of articles) Research question: Select a research topic of interest related to nutrition and formulate a research question. The research question should be one that you do not have the answer to already and one that is best answered by examining the body of scientific literature on that topic. Please see content (e.g. recorded presentations and readings) from week 2 on “How do I develop a research question?” for further guidance. Search Table: After you have developed your research question, you will formulate a search strategy that will guide you in your search of the scientific literature. It helps to break down your research question into key concepts; therefore, you will be constructing a “Search table” as demonstrated on pages 7-18 of the Library Guide. Turn in the search table that best reflects the concepts and key words that you used for your research question.
