Overview: To add drop-down lists to a Word document that is being used to survey opinion about which companies are gaining or losing in a variety of categories. Specific Task: For each category, insert four pull down lists for “winning?? and four pull down lists for “losing.?? The items to be included in the pull down list will be supplied in the accompanying spreadsheet. The pull down list should be wide enough that the entire text of each list item displays when the user clicks on the pull down. The first line in each list should default to “--------“. Note: this first line is not included in the attached spreadsheet. Also, it is imperative that the pull down menu be displayed on the page at all times so that the survey respondent realizes that this is a pull-down menu. Furthermore, the pull-down must maintain its size and position on the page (much as a pull-down on an HTML page does). Both requirements are critical. I believe that if one uses a pull-down in a Word form, that the pull-down will not display unless the form cell is selected. Then, the field size will adjust based on the length of the item selected. If a Word form is used, these two issues must be addressed. This work product must be compatible with recent versions of Microsoft Word. Notes to Developer: • The idea is for each survey respondent to be able to identify up to four vendors as winning share and up to four vendors as losing share in the respondent’s account. For example, if Respondent A decides that EMC, HDS, and HP are “winning?? and that IBM, Network Appliance, and Sun are “losing,?? the respondent would select EMC from winning pull-down #1, HDS from winning pull-down #2, and HP from winning pull-down #3. Winning pull-down #4 would remain in the default position: “----------“. The Respondent will use a similar approach for indicating the losers. • The comments field should be a Word form field. • We need to maintain this layout for publishing reasons.
