I have long-term experiences as a computer user and partly as a scripter, but not as a hard-boiled programer. I have been working at this project for a long time and figured out, what would be best for my purpose.
The outcome at this end is, I need an sql-sdatabase. After various checking I decided to use mssql abd VB 8 as a base. I would deliver a few very basic mask for entries of data. (A mask for customers adress, one for billing, one for the stuff supposed to be sold.) I would need it as a desktop application as well as a web application (at least for later). It needs to be "networkable". Later this would be a long-term project, but I want to go through the details step-by-step.
## Deliverables
As stated above, we need to do it step by step.
Since this is supposed to be a beginners help and also a long term cooperation, I would want you to check my environment (or rather a laptop set up for this case) via a remote connection.
- The programer connects the tables in a way, that one can enter the stock data and customer address and details about the bill.
- I would be able to search and find all entries in all fields.
The database will also be used as a source for MS Word to print out bills.
- You make a copy of all files you need and create a very simple install procedure. I install these on all machines in question and check out the operability in the network.
- You include the ability to set up 99 identities using the database and blocking access to one or more of the tables.
That is the task so far for this project.
The next(!) job would be to fill a field depending on the values entered already in the current form. Means: I save the current form, now the sizes and weight of the object are given and field n is automatically filled with a value from a list. Which value is being picked, depends on the rules set, considering weight OR size OR a third value. Once that value is found, it needs to be checked, if it would have the capacity to accept that entry.
If not, the next fitting value is being searched for until one is found.
If none can be found, a message needs to displayed, that another value needs to be set to proceed with this one article.
It would not be overall complex, since it would base on levels. Means, weight is one level. If weight lead to a decision already no other option is important anymore. If weight was of no matter, size would be questioned next, if that is standard also, the last level-question would be asked.
