Add-on to Existing Perl Script

I am currently using a PERL script that does IP-Delivery for sites. Basically, a line of code is placed at the top of the page to call the program through SSI. The program runs, checks the IP address of the requesting computer against a database of IPs. If the IP matches an IP in the database a page designed for that specific IP is delivered. If the IP does not match, the regular page is delivered. This is used to feed search engines pages designed specifically for them. What I am wanting is a bit of code added to the program that will allow me to do something similar for a directory. The directory I am wanting to target does not have set IP addresses because the editors work from home. So what I want the program to do is to look for a particular string in the referring page and, if the string is found, server the visitor a page designed for that particular directory. At the same time, the new code would record the IP address temporarily in the IP database. So that, if the visitor accessed additional pages in the site using this method, they would still be delivered the pages for that particular directory. After a set amount of time, the IP address would be deleted from the database.
